About Us
The Run Above the Clouds has been held every year since 2000. It was actually held for a few years in the early 1980s, too, but discontinued for whatever reason.
The event is funded by sponsorships as well as runner registration fees. The goal is to cover operating costs from registration fees so that sponsorship donations can be used to fund scholarships to Woody Gap School students.

About the Bear
In 2011 a runner reported seeing a bear on the course, just sitting there watching the runners pass. This probably doesn't happen in too many other races, the race committee was rather taken with the incident. Then in 2013 there were two separate sightings of bears along the race route, so that pretty well set the stage for the run. Thus the bear has ended up in our logo and on the race T-shirts. We're waiting to see where the bear thing goes from here.
About Our New Awards Medallions
Due to the several sightings of our rather bashful North Georgia black bears, the race committee has changed our award medallions from an Indian head to a black bear. Now the theme of the medallions will match our shirts.
